Combining dental roots acquired through CBCT devices with scanned dental crowns

Maestro 3D automatically calculates the axes of individual teeth, the center of rotation, Tip, Torque, and the FA point. These values are easily adjustable by the user, allowing them to define their own workflow, making movements much more predictable. Using real roots, when available, is crucial for accurately determining tooth axes and knowing the exact position of the roots. The software enables the combination of scanned crowns with real roots, resulting in a highly accurate and detailed final 3D model, which is particularly useful in subsequent stages. The 3D virtual setup provides an accurate simulation of orthodontic treatment by segmenting individual teeth and positioning them in the desired location. In scientific literature, extractions are recommended only in extreme cases, where crowding is compounded by significant skeletal issues and excessive dental inclinations. In these particular situations, not performing extractions could jeopardize dental stability and patient aesthetics.

Construction of Transition Models

The creation of transition models allows for the generation of the necessary set of models for the entire orthodontic treatment, ready to be exported in open formats such as STL/PLY/OBJ and optimized for 3D printing. This procedure is entirely automatic and takes only a few seconds. During this phase, the user has maximum control over the crucial variables of the process. It is possible to set constraints related to the maximum allowed Euclidean movement for each tooth in every transparent aligner or establish limits on the desired number of models. Furthermore, it is possible to define constraints related to the maximum allowed movement and rotation along the canonical axes for each tooth in each aligner. These constraints allow for more precise control over the planned movements. Additionally, the user can define and save one or more protocols based on the type of treatment or the patient (for example, an adolescent might require a different protocol from an adult). The use of these protocols is essential to ensure consistency in treatments and maximize the user's capabilities, increasing the predictability of each treatment to the fullest.
